Causes of Neck and Shoulder Tightness

The causes of neck and shoulder tightness are caused by:

1. Bad Posture:

• Forward head posture and rounded shoulders (e.g., from desk work, phone use) place strain on the cervical and thoracic spine.

• Poor alignment leads to muscular imbalances and overuse of specific muscles like the trapezius and levator scapulae.

2. Lactic Acid Buildup:

• Prolonged tension in the muscles reduces circulation, leading to accumulation of metabolic byproducts like lactic acid, which can contribute to discomfort and stiffness.

3. Misalignment of Vertebrae:

• Misalignment in the cervical and thoracic spine can irritate nerves

Massage is an effective treatment for neck and shoulder tightness because it relieves muscle tension, improves circulation, promotes spinal alignment, reduces nerve irritation, encourages relaxation and stress relief, and restores range of motion.

There are a number of massage techniques for neck and shoulder tightness you can choose from or have a combination of including: trigger point therapy, Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, sports massage, and myofascial release technique.

Metta offers all these treatments which you can find more about or book HERE.
